Greene Central High School's Agricultural Science department is under the guidance of a passionate educator named Emily Hardy. Hardy, an Agricultural Science teacher focusing on animal science and FFA advisor, is shaping the future of her students with innovative teaching methods and a deep-seated love for agriculture.

Hardy's journey into teaching was inspired by her own experiences. "I became an agriculture teacher because of the impact that my agriculture teacher had on me," Hardy explains. She credits her teacher for seeing potential in her that she couldn't see herself, building her confidence and steering her towards a career in education. Growing up on a farm also played a significant role in her choice, as it instilled a love for agriculture and its community.

A unique aspect of Hardy's teaching method is her incorporation of practical, hands-on activities that resonate with her students. One such activity is a breed show contest, where students study various livestock and small animal breeds, then create life-like models using materials like cardboard and paint. These models are then showcased in a competition format, judged by both Hardy and a panel of outside judges. "The kids seem to really enjoy it," Hardy notes, underscoring the importance of engaging students in creative ways.

Additionally, Hardy invites guest speakers from the University of Mount Olive's Collegiate FFA program to interact with her students. This not only provides a dynamic learning experience but also gives students a glimpse into the next level of agricultural education.

At the core of Hardy's teaching philosophy is the desire to see her students grow, both academically and personally. She emphasizes the importance of establishing relationships and finding individual strengths. "Just establishing those relationships and seeing them grow and change," she says, describing her approach to teaching.

Hardy's passion for teaching is driven by the significant transformations she witnesses in her students. "The rewarding factor once they realize, 'Oh, I can do it.' And then you see them grow exponentially," she describes, reflecting on the progress students make from their freshman year to senior year.

Greene Central High School's spotlight on Emily Hardy showcases not only her dedication to teaching but also her innovative approach to agricultural science education. Through her efforts, students are not only learning about agriculture but are also gaining confidence and skills that will serve them in all aspects of their lives.
