Obituary - Ann Ham Wade

GRIFTON - Mrs. Ann Ham Wade, age 79, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 6, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. A native of Greene County, she was born December 9, 1944, the daughter of Odis O’Neal Ham and Nancy Taylor Ham.

Ann retired from the Lenoir County Schools where she spent many years as a Teacher’s Assistant. Blessed with an outgoing personality and quick wit, Ann never met a stranger and most often provided humor in conversation and situation. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Ann’s family was always her priority and joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Valeria Ham Rhem; and her husband of 54 years, Bobby Wade, who preceded her in death on September 22, 2017.

Her surviving family includes her daughter, Teresa Wade Thompson and husband, Greg of Grifton; son, Lee Wade and wife, Megan of La Grange; grandchildren, Leah Thompson Jennings and husband, Neill of Raleigh, Brett Thompson of Greenville, Ava Wade and Lela Wade, both of La Grange; a sister, Kathryn Ham Waller of Snow Hill; and extended family of the Ham and Wade families.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Ann’s longtime neighbor, Polly Graham, who was a devoted friend and caregiver to her in the last months; and Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate and kind care they rendered to Ann in her final days.

Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, October 8th, at the Chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Bert Potter officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:50 PM prior to the service and other times at Mrs. Wade’s residence.
