KPD to be featured on See No Evil on ID channel
The Kinston Police Department will be featured on See No Evil on the ID channel. Tune in tonight at 9pm.
“The Jack Davis murder was an extremely complex case. Everyone in the agency put aside their regular duties and were given an assignment regarding the murder investigation,” said City of Kinston Police Chief Keith Goyette. “For example, At that time, myself and Brandon Turner (now a Major) were Detectives assigned to the Narcotics Division. At the time were were tasked with investigating narcotic complaints and investigating crimes pertaining to illegal drug activity but because of the magnitude of this murder case, we put our duties on hold and we assisted with interviewing possible suspects and later, locating them when warrants were issued for their arrests.”
“This case was huge for our community and our agency,” said Goyette. “It took a lot of manpower and we worked steadfast around the clock until it was solved. The people responsible for Jack Davis’ death got off much easier than what he experienced in his last moments on earth. It was a violent, senseless murder because they didn’t get much of anything of value before they were caught.”

Historical context:
Johnny Ray Sanders was sentenced to life in prison for the 2015 murder of Jack Davis Jr. during a home invasion in Kinston, North Carolina. A Lenoir County jury found Sanders guilty of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and felony conspiracy. Jack Davis Jr., 71, was assaulted during the invasion and later died from his injuries.
Six individuals were arrested following the murder, facing charges including murder, burglary, armed robbery, and conspiracy. Several co-defendants, including Phoenix Gabrielle Hannibal and Adrian Torres Lopez, have pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed robbery charges. Trials and plea agreements are pending for others involved.
