LCC Receives FAA Certification for Aircraft Maintenance Program

Lenoir Community College has reached a major milestone in aviation education by receiving certification from the Federal Aviation Administration for its airframe maintenance program. This certification, awarded on Wednesday, October 2, paves the way for LCC to offer comprehensive training in general aviation maintenance, positioning the college as a key player in the aerospace sector.

The FAA certification allows LCC to begin delivering courses in general aviation maintenance, which covers topics like the physics of aviation, the basics of electricity, ground operations, inspection techniques, and more. With a full class already enrolled and a waitlist for future offerings, the program is off to a strong start. Instruction is set to begin immediately.

The program will initially be housed in LCC’s Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing Center. The AAMC includes classroom facilities for teaching theory and fundamentals, as well as an outdoor laboratory and hangar with three aircraft for hands-on instruction in every aspect of airframe maintenance. LCC is also looking to the future with the construction of the new Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence. Once completed, this state-of-the-art facility will be the permanent home for the college’s aviation programs.

"Receiving FAA certification is a tremendous achievement for our institution and marks the official kick-off for the next phase of LCC’s aviation programs,” said LCC President Rusty Hunt. “We’re thrilled to see so much interest from students, and we’re confident this program will play a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for skilled aviation maintenance professionals. Our graduates will be well-positioned for high-wage, high-demand careers in this exciting field."

The new aviation maintenance program aligns with LCC’s mission to deliver workforce-ready education and support the regional economy by developing a pipeline of talent for industries in need. With the growth of the aviation sector in eastern North Carolina, LCC’s program is poised to make a lasting impact on both students and the community at large.
