Two out on pretrial release rearrested for felony vehicle theft

Two people out of jail under pretrial release are back behind bars after committing felony larceny of a motor vehicle.

Tomas Vega, 26, of Kinston and Desiree Mooring, 26, of La Grange were arrested Saturday after Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a separate call on Rouse’s Path in La Grange, where a man was allegedly pepper-sprayed.

While on Rouse’s Path, deputies talked to a resident and received information about a possible stolen vehicle that was reported to the LCSO the night before. Deputies went to a residence in the 3600 block and found the vehicle, along with Vega and Mooring.

After interviewing Vega, Mooring and the owner of the stolen vehicle, deputies arrested Vega and Mooring and charged them with larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle was returned to the owner.

After deputies ran Vega’s information through the communications center, it was found Vega was wanted for being a probation absconder; he also had several orders for arrest that were outstanding.

Besides the felony larceny of motor vehicle and felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, Vega was charged with orders for arrests for:

·      Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance

·      Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance

·      Felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance

·      Two counts of felony probation violation

·      Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia

He received no bond due to being on pretrial release. Mooring was charged with felony larceny of motor vehicle and felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and also received no bond due to being on pretrial release.
