I hope everyone had a warm and happy Thanksgiving celebration spent with loved ones and reflecting on the many blessings we have as Americans. I am so thankful to serve you in Washington and be a strong voice for Eastern North Carolina in Congress. From the miles of beautiful coastline to the closely knit communities inland, our district is the best in the country. There is so much we can be grateful for, and it was wonderful being back in the district to celebrate.
Before leaving Washington for the holiday, I had the honor of participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, helping pass important legislation to improve VA care and benefits of our veterans, and meeting with amazing community leaders and stakeholders on critical issues. In the district, I had the opportunity to visit two exciting construction sites that will bring great pride and prosperity to our communities.
I will continue fighting for the values of North Carolina's Third Congressional District. If you wish to stay more engaged and aware of what is happening in Washington and our District, please follow me on my socials linked above or here: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
Hurricane Helene Recovery Efforts in Western North Carolina
Two months ago, Hurricane Helene devastated our mountain communities. Eastern North Carolina knows firsthand how challenging hurricane recovery can be, so it has been heartwarming to see countless volunteers travel west to help. Just this weekend, over 90 volunteers from Greenville went to Black Mountain to provide over 4,000 Thanksgiving meals to families struggling in the aftermath. The stories emerging from this difficult time reflect our tireless commitment to supporting those affected. I am dedicated to playing my part in the recovery process and have rigorously stayed updated on the progress in Western North Carolina. I consistently communicate with federal, state, and local authorities, making it a priority in Washington to ensure our neighbors receive the federal assistance they need.
FEMA, NC Emergency Management, and the NC Department of Transportation continue to assist folks on the ground. The NC National Guard has returned to home stations as recovery efforts shift to long-term recovery protocols. Multi-agency Shelter Transition Teams are actively working in affected counties to assist those displaced, and nonprofits and volunteer groups have been essential in supporting survivors and feeding individuals in need.
Access is steadily being restored to state-maintained roads, and power is being restored in affected areas. As the state rebuilds transportation routes, damage sites, bridges, and culverts are being addressed in the process. Hundreds of dump trucks, backhoes, and other heavy equipment are actively assisting with debris cleanup. Additionally, disaster recovery shelters remain open for affected residences with numerous federal assistance services available as well.
In Washington, I remain dedicated to ensuring Western North Carolina receives the support it needs. Our communities need this assistance now, not later. As I’ve mentioned, I am dedicated to supporting the necessary disaster relief funding so Western North Carolina can rebuild and heal in dignity.
Statement on Being Elected to House GOP Steering Committee
Washington is in desperate need of serious individuals focused on addressing the immense challenges the United States faces today. Honoring Fallen Heroes in Wreath-Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery
I was honored to participate in the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on behalf of North Carolina’s Third Congressional District’s veterans. North Carolina's Third Congressional District is home to over 76,000 veterans and three military installations. It was a privilege to honor the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes and their families.
Following the ceremony, I had the opportunity to tour the quarters of the Sentinels who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as attend a briefing on the cemetery’s history.
It was truly a special day to remember the men and women who died in service to our nation. We will forever remember the legacy left by these brave heroes and express our gratitude to their families.
May they rest in peace and may God bless their loved ones.

Meeting with the American Academy of Pediatrics on the Challenges Facing Pediatricians
It was a pleasure to meet with Dr. Washington-Breach of the American Academy of Pediatrics to discuss the challenges facing pediatricians.
Since 1930, AAP has advocated for children’s welfare in the healthcare sector. Their work has advanced pediatricians’ clinical expertise and provided quality education. I appreciate her visit and the opportunity to discuss how Congress can improve access to high-quality care for children.
Meeting with United Healthcare on the Rising Costs to the Medicare System
I had the opportunity to discuss with United Healthcare a recent U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' report on questionable Medicare Advantage overpayments.
I am concerned about MA upcoding and exorbitant costs to the Medicare System. We must ensure proper use of scarce dollars and continued viability of the program.
Statement on Passage of Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act
Our veterans, and their families, sacrificed so much in defense of our freedom. We must make good on our promise to deliver the care and services they were promised upon their commitment to fighting for our nation.
As the representative of over 76,000 veterans, several military installations, and a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, one of my highest priorities is holding the VA accountable. I have not been satisfied with its track record since coming to Congress, especially in recent years. I am determined to make meaningful reforms to improve the quality of outcomes for our heroes.
This legislation is a much-needed step in the right direction. Thank you to the tireless efforts of Chairman Bost, and the rest of the committee, throughout this year to deliver this package.

Meeting with Peter LaMontagne on the Effect of AI on Cybersecurity
I enjoyed meeting with Peter LaMontagne of SMX, an organization working on leading-edge technology in the cybersecurity and computing space.
Our world is rapidly changing and advancements in artificial intelligence have great potential that we must harness for good.
Advocating for Veterans' Prosthetic Care
Amputee veterans who rely on prosthetic care are often those who have already endured profound challenges. They deserve timely, consistent support to restore their mobility and quality of life. Yet, too often, veterans with prosthetic needs face unacceptable delays, whether they’re waiting for initial devices, essential repairs, or replacements. These delays can leave veterans confined to wheelchairs, not only impacting their physical health but can also take a serious toll on their mental well-being and family life.
It’s critical that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ensures timely repairs and replacements while also equipping its prosthetic staff with the necessary training and resources to manage complex cases. Additionally, the VA must actively monitor the health implications of these delays and take steps to mitigate the harm caused by prolonged wait times.
In the Veterans Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Health, we held a hearing examining the VA’s amputee prosthetics care. I questioned the VA’s Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Christopher Saslo on how the VA is ensuring that our veterans receive nothing less than the consistent, high-quality care that they deserve.
Introduced the National Plan for Epilepsy
I am honored to have co-introduce the National Plan for Epilepsy. As a surgeon for 30 years, I have taken care of countless patients who deal with epilepsy every day. This medical challenge faces so many individuals and families. It is past time for us to remove the stigma and work towards finding a cure.
