LCSO: Two arrested on multiple felony charges

Two Kinston men have been arrested by officials with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office on multiple felony charges related to the theft of a trailer and drug possession.

On Friday, Jan. 26, deputies with the LCSO responded to a residence on N.C. 55 West; the owner of a trailer reported it stolen. Two days later, the victim of the theft found his trailer on sale on Facebook Marketplace. Deputies located the trailer and returned it to the victim.

As a result of the investigation into the theft, deputies discovered that Michael Whaley, 36, and Shawn Alcock, 44, both of Kinston, committed the theft and were involved with trying to sell it on Facebook. Warrants were issued for Whaley and Alcock.

Detectives with the Street Crimes and Rapid Response (SCARR) team located Whaley and arrested him Monday night. He was charged with:

• Felony larceny

• Felony possession of stolen goods

• Conspiracy to commit felony larceny

• Conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses

Whaley received a secured bond.

SCARR detectives located and arrested Alcock on Tuesday. During the arrest, detectives located illegal controlled substances on him. Alcock was transported to the jail, where detectives located more controlled substances on him.

Alcock was charged with:

• Felony larceny

• Felony possession of stolen goods

• Attempt to obtain property by false pretenses

• Conspiracy to commit felony larceny

• Conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses

• Possession of methamphetamine

• Felony possession of Schedule I controlled substance

• Possession of controlled substance on prison and/or jail premises

Alcock was also served with three additional orders for arrest; he was held on no bond.
