Obituary: Anna Ruth Johnson

Anna Ruth Johnson, 91, passed away on Monday, February 19, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 23, at 1:00 PM at Westview Cemetery, with Rev. David Kent officiating.

A Greene County native, Anna was born on August 7, 1932, to Sidney and Virgin Mary Ormond Hill. For a period of time, she and her family lived in Newport, where she graduated from Newport Consolidated High School. Shortly thereafter she and her mother moved to Kinston and she met and married Robert E. Lee Johnson, Jr. They worked on the farm and raised their family and continued a long family tradition until the early death of Robert Lee. Later, Anna worked for Du Pont De Nemours and Company until she had to medically retire. She was a member of Rainbow United Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

She is survived by her sons, Lott Johnson and Robert E. Lee Johnson, III; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren; and a nephew.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Christiana Ruth Johnson Broadway.
