Environmental STEM at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library

Join us at the Kinston-Lenoir Public Library for a two-month-long series of environmental STEM-themed programs on Tuesdays at 4:30 pm in March and April, including a special event on April 9th @ 4:30 pm as part of the 2024 North Carolina Science Festival.
Founded in 2010, the North Carolina Science Festival is the first statewide science festival in the United States. Through a series of community-based events each April (hosted by schools, colleges, libraries, museums, parks, businesses, and other local organizations), the Festival celebrates the economic, educational, and cultural impacts of science in North Carolina. It is an initiative of Morehead Planetarium & Science Center at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Throughout March and April, Neuse Regional Libraries will conduct weekly events with the themes of deforestation/nature conservation and green science/environmental STEM, respectively. This series of programs will lead up to our special event on April 9th, at 4:30 pm, where the Kinston-Lenoir Public Library will host the Clean Water Education Partnership to present a program on the importance of the water cycle.
The Clean Water Education Partnership (CWEP) cooperates with local governments, state agencies, and nonprofit organizations to protect water quality in the Tar-Pamlico, Neuse, and Cape Fear River Basins. CWEP aims to protect North Carolina’s waterways from stormwater pollution through public education and outreach to keep our communities' environments healthy. It is essential to spread the word about water quality and conservation while equipping people with the necessary tools to better our communities.
Neuse Regional Libraries' STEMology program is a weekly after-school program for grades 1-5 that features activities rooted in science, technology, engineering, or math. Each program begins with an introduction to the topic and instructions for the activity. Then, participants conduct an experiment with the aid of our librarians.
Please join for giveaways, refreshments, and more as we delve into the water cycle and how our region is impacted by changes to our local environment. No registration is required to attend. We hope to see you there!
