Grifton man arrested after allegedly shooting at family and neighbors

A 20-year-old Grifton man was arrested by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies Saturday on attempted murder and drug charges after he allegedly shot at family members and neighbors.

Cameron Edmundson was arrested on a half-dozen charges — including two attempted first degree murder charges — following what started as a domestic dispute.

LCSO D-Shift units responded to a residence at 6728 Skeeter Pond Road, Grifton, Saturday for a domestic disturbance call. While on the way to the residence, Lenoir County Communications advised the disturbance had turned physical and that Edmundson had firearms in his possession.

Shortly thereafter, dispatch advised the suspect was shooting at occupants inside the residence with a handgun. It was also reported Edmundson was on the back porch of the residence with an AR-15-style rifle shooting at family members and neighbors.

LCSO deputies arrived on the scene and confronted Edmundson at the rear of the residence, where he was observed being armed with the AR-15-style rifle and a semiautomatic handgun. Deputies engaged the suspect as he was walking towards the back porch of the residence and ordered him to drop the weapons. Edmundson followed the deputies’ commands and was taken into custody.

During the investigation, deputies learned Edmundson shot at family members inside the residence, outside the residence and into a vehicle as they were trying to leave the scene. Family members drove to a neighbor’s residence and Edmundson also fired weapons towards that residence.

Multiple firearms were seized during the investigation, including the AR-15-style rifle and the handgun that was used during the assault. Deputies also located and seized Schedule VI marijuana and Schedule I psychedelic mushrooms from Edmundson.

Edmundson was formally charged with:

·      Two counts of attempted first degree murder

·      One count of discharging a weapon into occupied property

·      One count of assault by pointing a gun

·      One count of simple assault

·      One count of damage to property

He received no bond on all the felony charges but received a secured bond for the damage to property charge.

This incident is still under investigation and more charges are pending.
