Greene County to Host Health and Elder Abuse Awareness Fair
Greene County is gearing up to host a special event aimed at promoting health awareness and addressing elder abuse concerns within the community. The "Older Americans Month Health, Information, & Elder Abuse Awareness Fair" will take place on Thursday, May 16th, 2024, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Greene County Wellness Center located at 84 North Perry Dr., Snow Hill, NC 28580.
This event, which is free and open to the public, promises to offer a wealth of valuable resources and activities. Attendees can look forward to door prizes, demonstrations, health screenings, and samples, alongside a host of informative booths representing various agencies and organizations dedicated to senior citizen services.
The fair's schedule includes engaging speakers such as Angela Pridgen and Lauren Latshaw, Regional Ombudsmen, who will kick off the event at 10:00 am. Other notable speakers include Jennifer Hopkins from Adult Protective Services DSS and Jennifer Mervin from SAFE Domestic Violence, each delivering insights into critical issues affecting older adults.
Throughout the morning, attendees can participate in the Elder Abuse Awareness Walk in the gym, starting at 10:30 am. Additionally, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, a complimentary hot dog lunch will be provided, allowing guests to refuel while enjoying entertainment by DJ Stevie Heath, who will be hosting an "Endless Summer Beach Party" theme.
Among the participating agencies featured at the fair are Cardinal Hospice, Contentnea Health, Greene County Health Department, and Project CARE (Caregivers Running on Empty), among others. These booths will provide information tailored to senior citizens, family caregivers, and those seeking resources for older adults in Greene County.
Sharon Harrison, Director Greene County Senior Center & Services, emphasized the significance of this gathering, stating, "Our event is to spotlight all the services available for Older Adults, [allocating] at least $10,000 just to showcase what we do."
The fair aims to serve as a vital platform for education, awareness, and community engagement, offering attendees the opportunity to connect with experts and organizations committed to enhancing the well-being and safety of older Americans.
