Whether you’re a child or teen looking for a fun way to stay busy this summer or an adult looking for cultural enrichment and new activities, Neuse Regional Libraries has you covered this summer! We will be offering summer reading activities for children, teens, and adults and will also host a concert from an amazing performer to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday.

Neuse Regional Libraries Summer Reading Program (SRP) theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library.  All programs will begin on June 3 and end August 16, 2024. You can register for Summer Reading at any of your local libraries in Lenoir, Jones, and Greene Counties and receive interactive materials for participation. Completing activities will give participants the opportunity to win prizes such as gift certificates and tickets to local adventures.

The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library will host special Summer Reading Storytimes each Thursday at 10:45 a.m. Children and teens will enjoy STEMventure activities on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m., Tastefully Abroad cooking classes on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m., and Adventure Awaits VR Exploration on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m.  Adults have their own full slate of activities, including two book discussions, craft programs, a geocaching adventure, a lecture on the archaeology of piracy, and much more. Each participant will receive a map of activities. Each library has its own schedule of fun-filled events; visit neuselibrary.org or contact your local library for a full list of activities.

The Library will also be hosting a special concert event on June 20 at 6:30 p.m. Professional jazz pianist Le’Andra D. McPhatter and her band will perform a concert in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library celebrating Juneteenth and the tradition of jazz music in America. The Library will recognize Juneteenth throughout the month of June with an informational exhibit in the Library on the history of Juneteenth. We hope you will join us for this evening of transformative jazz.
