Obituary: Katie “Sue” Tripp
Pink Hill – Katie “Sue” Tripp, 83, passed away Sunday, May 5th, 2024, at Carolina East Medical Center. She was surrounded by her family when she went home to be with Jesus.
A graveside service will be held at East Duplin Memorial Park, Beulaville on Thursday, May 9, at 3PM. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, May 8.
Sue was born in Duplin County on June 1, 1940, to John P. and Mary Elizabeth Morton-Rouse. In her younger years, she and her sister had beautiful voices and would sing gospel music to shut ins. Sue moved with her family to Greenville, Tennessee as guardians to the Free Will Baptist Childrens Home. Moving back to North Carolina, she became a member of Sandy Plains Free Will Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed family gatherings. She worked at Maysville Garment Factory and spent more than 20 years with JC Penney in sales.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth Morton Rouse and John Pierce Rouse, Katie is preceded in death by her stepmother, Nettle Hoyle Gibble; sisters, Sybil Tripp and Janice Thompson; brothers, Henry Rouse, Jerry Rouse and Eugene Rouse; and Aunt Oakland Houston and Uncle Delmar Houston.
Sue is survived by her children, Todd Tripp and Trina Stalmach (Chris); grandchildren, Drew Tripp (Jennifer), Kate Graham (Nick), and Corey Tyndall (Candi); great-grandchildren, Kali Jo, Ryan, Reese, Carter, Carsyn, and Cravan; sisters, Elaine Rouse Free and Pam Anderson; brothers, Perry Rouse, Eddie Rouse, Doug Rouse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
