Obituary: Karen Jackson Skinner

Kinston - Karen Jackson Skinner, 79, passed away at her home Friday, May 31, 2024.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2pm Tuesday, June 4, at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, June 3, from 5- 7pm at Edwards Funeral Home.

Karen, daughter of the late Rodolph and Addie Jackson, was a lifelong resident of Kinston and a 1963 graduate of Grainger High School. She had many hobbies, but really enjoyed going to the beach and shopping. She was a faithful and active member of Faith Lutheran Church and had a servant’s heart and thrived on helping others, especially taking food to the homeless. Karen was active in the Kinston community and was a former member of the Red Hat Society. Although she had a number of titles, she will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her daughter, Krista Shannon Skinner; sisters, Helen Clark and Alberta “Dot” Griffin; brother, Vernon R. Jackson; and a niece, Lavone Parker.

Karen is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Douglas Skinner; sons, Jonathan Skinner and wife Misty, and their son Jared of Kinston, Matthew Skinner of the home; sister, Cheryl Register and husband Allen Price of Winterville; special niece, Rose Moore and husband Willie of Kinston; as well as many other special nieces and nephews.

Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 709 W. Vernon Avenue, Kinston, NC 28501.
