NCDOT: New Contract Awarded for New Lenoir County Bridges

Construction can start this summer

KINSTON – A pair of bridges in Lenoir County are set to be replaced beginning this year, thanks to a new contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Both bridges along N.C. 55 were built in 1937. One allows traffic to cross the Neuse River, and the other over Neuse River overflow.

The $15.5 million contract was awarded to ST Wooten Corp. of Wilson. Crews can begin work this summer and are anticipated to be complete the projects by early 2028.

During construction, traffic will be maintained on the existing bridges, while the new structures are being built adjacent. Occasional lane closures will be put in place as needed.

The department will alert the public prior to work beginning.
