KPD responds to a hit & run involving dirt bike vs ATV

KPD's B-Squad responded to the 400 block of East Gordon Street for a report of a vehicle crash involving a dirt bike and a ATV. Officer arrived on scene and the investigation revealed that both the dirt bike and the ATV were being driven recklessly on the roadway. During this time the operator of the dirt bike, Michael Stayhorn (44 of Kinston) crashed into the ATV. Strayhorn was ejected from the dirt bike causing his improperly worn helmet to fail. The operator of the ATV fled the scene shortly after the crash and before officer arrived. An inspection of the dirt bike further revealed it did not have operable front brakes which may have contributed to the crash. Strayhorn was was issued citations for Driving Careless & Reckless Driving, Operating a Vehicle With Inadequate Brakes, and Driving While License Revoked, Strayhorn was treated by Lenoir County EMS and transported to UNC Lenoir for minor injuries.
