The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Falling Creek 2

5744 US Hwy 70, La Grange

Date: 4/17

Score: 94

Observations:

Several items missing date marking in reach in coolers, such as slaw and potato salad.

Wet wiping cloths out on counter.

Inside of drawers and shelves in kitchen have dust, dirt, and crumbs present from use.

Additional cleaning is heavily needed on wall behind the grill and in the men's restroom.

Broken tiles are present in kitchen area.

Galaxy Bar and Restaurant

4010 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations:

No certified protection manager on duty. Certificate expired.

Mold in ice bin.

Prep unit not holding product at proper temperature.

Frozen chili did not have a date mark.

Torn gasket on right door of cooler reach in.

Drain plug broken. Dumpster door and lid open.

Observations:

No certified protection manager on duty.

Inside components of ice machine was observed to have build up.

1 spray bottle was not labeled.

Freezer lid cracked.

Observed leak at hand wash sink. Cold water faucet broken.

Ceiling in the women's bathroom damages at the wall in front of the stalls. Tile missing and pipe hanging through.

H.O.W. II

710 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations:

Observed 1 bottles of sanitizer with out the common name.

Employees wearing watches and bracelets while working with food and clean equipment.

Employees prepping and cooking food not wearing proper beard nets.

Between uses, wiping cloths shall be held in chemical sanitizer. Wiping cloths left on prep tables.

Observed plastic spoon used to scoop butter on the cook line.

Some cutting boards have deep grooves and are hard to clean and sanitize.

Top of reach in freezer rusted. Tape used on handles for the meat prep top. Tape is not easily cleanable and should not be used.

Inside and outside of equipment, shelving, rack between coolers, storage bins, dry food container/bins, and rice warmers need additional cleaning.

Observed dirty vent over the dish machine and in other areas of the kitchen.

Hugo Grocery and Grill

2951 Hugo Road, Grifton

Observations:

Person in charge has expired ServSafe certificate.

Ribs in display were at a temperature of 100F. TCS foods shall be hot held at 135F or higher.

Wet wiping cloth on the counter next to microwave and steam well as well as draped over the 3 compartment sink basins. Wiping cloths shall be stored in a chemical sanitizer in between uses.

Observed metal scoops in flour, sugar and other dry ingredients under the prep table with the handles in the product.

Styrofoam and paper takeout containers were used as scoops and stored in dry ingredients such as flour and breading.

Hwy 55

6018 Hwy 11 S, Pink Hill

Observations:

No Certified Food Protection Manager present.

Bleach stored above clean utensils and dishes, fly killer stored above burger buns hand soap and sanitizer tablets stored above clean wiping cloths.

A few flies and live roaches in the establishment.

Employee not wearing beard net while cooking on the grill top.

Shelving within refrigeration soiled and some have signs of rust.

Dust/grease buildup observed on ceiling above cook line, walls behind equipment, throughout prep and storage area, and within men's bathroom, light shields, vents and tiles. Ceiling leaks throughout.

Chipped floor tile on cook line and back prep area.

Light shielding missing under units on cook line.

Coats hung up on the bread storage shelving by back door. Employee belongings shall not contaminated food or equipment.

Hwy 55

4130 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations:

Shake mixer was not cleaned after the last strawberry shake was made. It was sitting soiled with no employee around.

Employee lacked beard net will cooking on the cook top.

Wiping cloths were stored in bucket on shake station in a concentration of 0 ppm.

Forks not wrapped were stored with lip contact portion mixed with handles.

Can opener heavily soiled.

Gaskets torn on reach in freezer.

Can opener not current ansi certified with pull pin for easily removal of blade.

Gaskets, hoses to soda machines, sides of equipment under hood system are heavily soiled.

Chemical hose resting in basin of mop sink.

Back flow preventer on mop sink was broken and missing the bell.

Receptacle top door open on cardboard receptacle.

Baseboards coming off the wall in areas such as under 3 comp sink and behind equipment.

Walls, floor and ceilings need additional cleaning. Heavy dusk build up on ceilings throughout facility over cook line, prep line and in dish washing and storage areas.

Missing light shield over prep unit on cook line.

Employee drinks shall be stored in designated areas to avoid contamination of food and/ or equipment. Employee drinks stored everywhere throughout the facility.

Jo's Cafe

709 Kinston Boulevard, Pink Hill

Date: 4/26

Score: 98

Observations:

Sanitizer too strong.

Build up observed at bottom of freezers, on cooler doors, on wire racks inside refrigerators.

There are still bricks holding up pipe under sink.

Floor tiles broken or damaged throughout kitchen.

Walls and floors need additional cleaning up and around equipment in areas such as: under prep line, under equipment, on and around wheels of equipment, etc.
