Officer assaulted during warrant service
Detectives with KPD's Violent Crime Action Team observed Perry Jones (47 of Kinston) on Macon St. Detectives were aware that Jones had warrants related to a previous incident involving narcotic violations. Detectives approached Jones and he attempted to walk away. Officer began giving Jones commands to stop and that he was under arrest. Jones refused their commands. As the detectives attempted to place Jones under arrest, he began to actively resist. During the arrest, Jones began to assault the officer by kicking and headbutting them. Additional officers arrived and were able to take Jones into custody. In addition to the warrant service, Jones was charged with the following: 4 counts of Felony Assault Causing Physical Injury to a Law Enforcement Officer, 1 count of Felony Resisting a Law Enforcement Officer Causing Serious Injury, and Misdemeanor Resisting a Law Enforcement Officer. Jones was placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond.
