Kinston Police Department investigating hit-and-run incident

KINSTON, NC - On July 27, 2024, the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of a bicyclist struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of E Lenoir Avenue and Davis Street. Upon arrival, officers found Stefan Pigford, 57, of Kinston, injured in the roadway.

Kinston Fire & Rescue and Lenoir County EMS also responded to the scene and provided immediate medical treatment to Pigford. He was subsequently transported to UNC Health, where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene before officers arrived. The Kinston Police Department is actively investigating the hit-and-run and is working to identify the vehicle and driver responsible.
