Jones County Public Schools recognized at international level

Jones Senior High School HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students recently attended HOSA International Leadership Conference (ILC) in Houston, Texas. There were over 12,000 HOSA attendees at this conference from across the globe and the Jones Senior students had the opportunity to collaborate, network, and learn with numerous HOSA members from various states and countries.

The theme of the conference was "Dare To Create" and it was held on June 25-30th, 2024.  The students worked really hard to earn their spot to compete in this conference by placing in district, regional, and state level competitions.  Jaiyla Baker, Marshay Brown, Kayia Burton, Bailey Carter, Taziah Cotten, Miranda Ruiz-Esparza, Chelsi Guadarrama, Donquirius Hall, Ana Rodriguez-Hernandez, Corrin Rennie, Monica Smith, and Jayla Young were among the students that competed at the HOSA ILC.

Congratulations, Taziah Cotten and Chelsi Guadarrama who earned special recognition and were able to walk across the stage for their performances in Healthcare Issues Exams. These were our first winners to ever represent JSHS on the International Leadership Conference stage in this category.

Congratulations to Bailey Carter and Miranda Ruiz-Esparza for making it to the 2nd round with their Health Career Display. Mrs. Murrell,RN is the advisor for the HOSA Chapter, and Health Science Teacher at Jones Senior High School. Mrs. Murrell has worked very hard to ensure these students were prepared and equipped to compete at the highest level. Mrs. Murrell stated that seeing the students compete and succeed at this conference and by just giving them this unique experience is one of the many reasons why she loves teaching healthcare education and advising the HOSA Chapter at Jones Senior High School. Special thank you to Marsha Nye (Chaperone), Jones County Public Schools, individuals, businesses, and organizations that supported this program in helping them get to this conference so they could showcase their skills.
