Obituary: Ronnie Darrell Lanier

Ronnie Darrell Lanier, 88, formerly of Kinston, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, in Oriental. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 12 noon at Edwards Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be conducted Friday, July 12, 2024, at 3PM at Westview Cemetery.

Ronnie was born on February 2, 1936, in Kinston to Oscar Lanier and Queenie Cauley Lanier Taylor. He served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958. On September 18, 1954, he married his beloved wife, Sharon, and they remained devoted to each other until her passing in 2004. Throughout their 50 years of marriage, they raised four children together.

Ronnie is survived by his daughters, Wanda Lanier Emory, Pamela Lanier Wurtz, and Kimberly Lanier Schoen. He is also survived by his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ronnie is preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Darrell Lanier, Jr.; stepfather, Mike Ray Taylor, Sr.; and his grandson, Spencer Paul Schoen.
