Kinston man arrested for copper and other metals theft

A Kinston man was arrested earlier today after being identified on surveillance cameras for allegedly stealing copper and other metals from a residence on Sunday.

Austin Ray Newcome, 26, was identified by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Monday after the suspect was seen on surveillance cameras stealing copper and other metals from a Ben Dail Road residence on Sunday between 6 and 8 p.m. Newcome also used a vehicle on the property to help remove the metal.

On Monday, LCSO detectives secured a warrant for Newcome’s arrest for the following charges:

• Felony larceny

• Felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle

• Felony attempted breaking and entering a building

• Misdemeanor unauthorized use of a motor vehicle

LCSO C shift deputies arrested Newcome today and transported him to the magistrate’s office. He was housed in the Lenoir County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.
