Kinston Fire & Rescue extinguish small blaze in arson attempt

On August 9, 2024, KPD's A-Squad, KPD’s Investigation Division, and Kinston Fire & Rescue responded to a residence on Queens Road after receiving a report of an attempted arson. A witness reported that Tykeem Trotman, a 34-year-old Kinston resident, poured fire accelerant and lit cigarettes inside the house in an attempt to start a fire. While on scene, Kinston Fire and Rescue extinguishing a small fire inside the residence.

Following an investigation, KPD's investigators charged Trotman with Arson and Misdemeanor Child Abuse. Officers also served Trotman with an unrelated Order for Arrest. Trotman was subsequently placed in the LC Jail without bond.
