Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:


East Coast Wings and Grill 

3021 N Herritage Street, Kinston

Date: 6/15

Score: 94

Observations: 

Remove dead or trapped birds, insects, rodents, and other pests. Pests shall be removed so that they do not accumulate. Flies throughout the kitchen and Sticky traps were used inside the kitchen area on the floor for crawling inspects. 

Sauces were uncovered on the prep table.

Observed cutting board used to cut carrots was no longer in good condition. color deterioration and heavy scoring. Observed cutting board on prep unit across from fryers heavily scored and stained.

Inside of dish machine heavily soiled. Observed multiple items including but not limited to: gaskets, shelving, food bins, fryers, inside and outside of equipment needing cleaning.

No back flow prevention device on hose by 3 comp sink.

Observed floors walls and ceilings needing cleaning. Can wash area in much need of cleaning so it can be used effectively.

Light out under hood.


Fatbaby's Country Cooking

1215 Greene Haynes Road, Kinston 

Date: 6/15

Score: 95

Observations:

Employee observed preparing and handling food with out hair nets.

Additional cleaning needed on gaskets and dry storage shelving.

Observed leak on the plumbing under the two comp prep sinks next to the hand wash sink.

walls and ceilings and floors observed to need additional cleaning. 

Back flow device broken on the can wash sink.

Floors in dry storage area are flaking, some FRP board behind hot holding wells needs to be sealed to wall and gaps and holes filled.


Happy Seafood Family 88, LLC

2405 Herritage Street, Unit J

Score: 96

Observations: 

Some additional cleaning needed on the sides of cook line equipment, the racks in the 2 door small freezer.

Clean the wall behind garbage can at entrance to kitchen and the floor under fryer and other cook line equipment. Replace the floor tiles in the back room where grease trap used to be as per permit.


Hardees

1344 Hwy 258 S, Kinston

Score: 97

Observations: 

Ice cream scoop was seen stored in a container of stagnant water that temped at 56F.

Single service items including to go containers and cup on the floor in the upstairs storage room.

Observed build up on gaskets through out facility, debris on shelving in both dry storage areas.

Door open to dumpster. 

Observed build up of grease, debris and other types of debris/splatter on walls and ceiling through out facility.


Hardees 

4171 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 7/06

Score: 94.5

Observations: 

Build up on soda nozzles at drive through.

Observed torn gaskets at both right side door of center prep unit on the flat top grill side. 

Caulking at 3-comp sink in disrepair.

Additional cleaning needed on sides of fryers, hoods, shelving, walk-in refrigerator floor. Microwave on top of the hot holding drawers needs cleaning. Gaskets through out the facility needs cleaning. cleaning needed at caulking on 3-comp sink, back hand sink, and back prep sink.

Slight drip at faucet of back prep sink.

Observed heavy build up on the vent covers of the condenser unit in the walk-in cooler. Floors, walls and ceilings need additional cleaning.

Tile missing in can wash basin floor.


Jay's 108

108 B North Street, Kinston

Score: 93.5

Observations: 

Employees wearing silicone bracelets.

Ice scoop stored in blue container on side of ice machine, clue container had standing water with debris and suspected growth. 

Continental reach in cooler was not maintaining temperature.

Gaskets through out facility needs additional cleaning.

Paper towel dispenser at hand sink at sushi station does not dispenser paper towels effectively.

Two lightbulbs out inside the walk in cooler.

Observations: 

Ceiling in prep room is not smooth and easily cleanable. Establishment shall replace/ repair. 

A/C unit in kitchen is leaking. Establishment shall repair/replace.


La Terrazita 

1701 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 6/27

Score: 92.5

Observations: 

Observed employee wash hands and turn off water without barrier.

Clean utensils stored in a soiled container. 

Observed employee wash hands with gloves on to change task. 

Observed torn gasket at front line. Shelving units and shelves in coolers are rusting. 

Observed build up at the bottoms of coolers, under equipment, on gasket, etc.

Observed leak at the piping under the rinse sink at the dish machine.

Dumpster open on side and missing lid.
