Obituary: Judy Ester (Bowen) Martin

Judy Ester (Bowen) Martin passed away peacefully at her home in Kinston, NC on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Judy was 79 years old. She was born January 4, 1945, in Beaufort County to Arthur and Nellie Bowen.

No services will be held, and in lieu of flowers the family asks those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Lucky Cats of Kinston or the Lenoir County SPCA in Judy's name.

Judy was raised in Aurora, North Carolina with her brother, Shelton and sister, Pat, later moving to Kinston in 1978. Judy's mischievous antics as the youngest of three children were the subject of stories told at family gatherings throughout her life. Judy was approachable and kind, and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. She had a keen interest in animals and a particular fondness for cats. Judy also loved learning about American history, especially the life of John F. Kennedy, whose inauguration she performed at with her school's marching band. She loved visits to Colonial Williamsburg and Biltmore Estate, among other local historical sites. She was a caring mother, grandmother and later in life, great-grandmother. Judy graduated from Washington High School in 1963 and after a career working in human resources at many local area businesses including Piggly Wiggly and DIMON International, retired from MasterBrand Cabinets, in Kinston. Judy was a woman of faith, regularly attending services most recently at 902 Church while still physically able.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Patricia Kattner and Shelton Bowen.

Judy is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn Shelly Joyner (Jay), son Wade Martin, grandchildren Arrington Morgan (Kyle), Gannon Joyner, Peyton Crabb (Garrett), and great grandchildren Beckett Morgan and Bryson Morgan.

Arrangements made by Edwards Funeral Home & Cremations. Online condolences may be expressed at www.edwardsfhc.com.
