Charlotte Baker Memorial Fund weekend to feature multiple events
PINK HILL — The Charlotte Baker Memorial Fund will host its highly anticipated weekend of events from September 27th to 29th, with activities designed to raise funds and awareness for individuals living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
“The Charlotte Baker Memorial Fundraiser isn't just an annual event—it's a testament to the power of community and the enduring legacy of a remarkable woman,” said Stephanie Sumner. “Last year, we raised an incredible $25,000, which went directly to improving the lives of pALS patients through medical equipment, home modifications, and financial assistance.”
The weekend kicks off with a variety of community events, including a walk-a-thon, Hog Cook Off, BBQ plate sale, silent auction, and a co-ed softball tournament. Main events will be held in Pink Hill, with BBQ plates available at various locations and the softball event in Albertson.
Event Highlights:
Walk-a-Thon: The ALS Walk-a-Thon will begin at 6:00 p.m. on September 27th at 203 S Pine Street in Pink Hill. Participants will walk through downtown Pink Hill to honor Charlotte Baker and support those affected by ALS.
Hog Cook Off and BBQ Plate Sale: Enjoy a variety of BBQ dishes at different locations. The Hog Cook Off will showcase local cook teams competing to support the cause.
Silent Auction: An array of items will be available for bidding, with proceeds going directly to the fund. Early previews of auction items will be available during the walk-a-thon.
Co-ed Softball Tournament: The co-ed softball tournament will be split between the Pink Hill Recreation fields and the Albertson Recreation fields. Teams can register online to participate.
In addition to these activities, there will be vendor booths set up on W. Walnut Street, just outside the old school cafeteria, starting at 9:00 a.m. on September 28th. Vendors can register for a $40 booth fee, which will contribute to the fund.
A half and half raffle will also be held, with the drawing scheduled for September 30th at Two Dogs Pizza. Tickets are priced at $1 each, with bundles available for $10 and $20. All funds raised from ticket sales will support the Charlotte Baker Memorial Fund, which provides essential equipment and home modifications for ALS patients.
“Every one that knew Charlotte Baker knows she was all about helping other people and her community,” said Joe Baker. “ALS is a terrible disease which there is no known cure and this disease is very expensive for the patient and their families. The Charlotte Baker Memorial Fund was founded and based on Charlotte’s beliefs of helping people in need”
The Charlotte Baker Memorial Fund has previously donated to the NC ALS Foundation. This year, every dollar raised will go directly to providing support for ALS patients in North Carolina.
Volunteers are needed for various roles, including concession sales and BBQ plate preparation. Donations for the silent auction and cook teams are also being accepted. Individuals interested in volunteering or contributing can contact the fund organizers for more details.
“In a short time, this fundraiser has grown exponentially, and has shown us how wonderful things can occur when people come together as one, for one cause,” said Sumner. “As we continue to support those battling ALS, we're not just raising funds—we're honoring Charlotte's memory by carrying forward her passion for service to the community.”

“It's heartening to see how, even now, she continues to inspire us to give back and make a tangible difference in people's lives,” said Sumner.
