Obituary: Morris W. Luckett

Winterville – Morris W. Luckett, 79, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 am in Ayden Christian Church. The family will receive friends following the service.

Morris grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan and following graduation, he served in the US Army for three years. For a number of years, he worked in retail and later owned an insurance agency with his wife, Francille for over 33 years, working with Settlers Life and Life of Alabama. He served as town commissioner for several terms in Hookerton and later served as mayor. He loved all types of music and sang in different church choirs for over 45 years. He also loved NASA and space, reading sci-fi novels, traveling, history, and was an avid camper. He was always smiling and will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morrie and Luella Luckett; brother, Gene Luckett; and son, Christopher Luckett.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Francille Shingleton Luckett; stepson, John T. Morrison, Jr. and fiancée, Kim Chestnut of Loris, SC; grandson, Kyle Morrison; sisters, Mary Korytowsky (Walter) of Jackson, MI and Cindy Conklin of Battle Creek, MI; in-laws, David Shingleton (Debbie) of New Bern and Stella Daughety (Jim) of Kinston; special nephew, James Daughety; and a number of nieces and nephews.
