Dr. Charles Moore’s Letter of Thanks to Kinston

Dr. Charles Moore’s Letter of Thanks to Kinston

Dear Kinston,

My family began this journey thinking we would be in North Carolina for one year; simply to complete a surgical bariatric fellowship at East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine and once completed head back "home." Never in a million years would I have thought I'd be practicing medicine in Eastern North Carolina, especially Lenoir County. Honestly, I didn't even know Kinston, North Carolina existed! But, in the last decade this community has afforded my family and me an immeasurable gift. A gift that you can never unwrap, but you know is there. It is at the core of what connects us all and makes us human. Thank you, Kinston, from my wife, my children and me. You are "home".

To my partners at UNC Surgical Specialists at Lenoir:  Dr. Joel Rose, what can I say? You are truly my brother. Watching you grow into an amazing surgeon and executive, you will truly make a difference for this community, region, and state. Kimberly Wade NP: Sis, you are the glue that holds us together in all those tough spots, thank you! Dr. Wayne Jarman: for being that father figure and the ever-calming presence. Dr. Jamie Serrano along with the other surgeons joining the team, will fit into the family we made and continue the mission to make the health of Kinston better.

To my colleagues and friends at UNC Health Lenoir: Ms. Constance Hengel, Ms. Beverly Jenkins, Mr. Jim Dobbins, Mr. Derek Vestal, and Ms. Debbie Gray, whose dream of bringing Kinston a nationally accredited bariatric program was as big as mine! The road trip to Novant Health will remain forever in my mind. We did it! A special thank you to Abby, Mary, Megan, Danielle, and the many others that have shared in this team's success. Thank you to Dr. Fernando Escabi, Dr. Lee Cox, Dr. Robert Deepe, Dr. Claire Paris, Mr. Bob Enders and Dr. Heather Rouse.  Your leadership and most importantly your friendship will always be with me.

The three most important components in any human’s life are: time, health, and trust. We never get any more time and once it’s gone, we can never get it back. It is truly our most valuable commodity. If we have our health, we are afforded more time. Time to do all the wonderful things this life has to offer. Trust is the most precious thing that one human can give to another. Some may even express it as "love" but at its most basic core it is trust. As a surgeon, the ability to touch these three human values with those in our community, has been the pleasure of my life. It is why I went into medicine.

My wife, Dr. Lisa Domico has taken a job in another state and my family is leaving the area. Over the past few weeks everyone’s outpouring of generosity and well wishes for us has been amazing! Thank you, Kinston. Life often takes us in directions we don’t quite understand until God reveals it.

Respectfully,

Dr. Charles Moore

General and Bariatric Surgeon
