Kinston man arrested after assaulting deputies, holding family at gunpoint
A convicted felon from Kinston is behind bars without bond tonight after assaulting two Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies while they were attempting to arrest him on nearly a dozen charges, including domestic violence against a pregnant woman and her children.
Stacy Lashone Kinsey, 50, was taken into custody by LCSO A-Shift patrol deputies this morning with the help of a Good Samaritan in the 200 block of Tyree Road. The deputies had responded to a domestic disturbance call in which Lenoir County Communications had been advised by a caller that a naked male subject — Kinsey — was outside of a residence threatening to assault the caller and her children, which were also his children. Dispatch further advised that Kinsey had entered two other residences in the area without consent.
When deputies arrived at the Tyree Road address, they encountered Kinsey and attempted to detain him. Kinsey physically attacked two deputies by striking them in the head and face with a closed fist. A Good Samaritan assisted the deputies and helped take Kinsey into custody.
After the altercation, the deputies were taken to the hospital and treated for the injuries they sustained during the assault. They were later released after being treated for their injuries.
During the subsequent investigation, deputies learned Kinsey had held the pregnant victim and the children against their will and threatened them with a firearm. The victim was eventually able to escape the residence and run to a neighbor’s home for help. Kinsey entered two residences in the area while trying to find the victim.
Deputies located and seized the firearm Kinsey used against the victim; their investigation also revealed he was a convicted felon. He was transported to the Lenoir County Magistrate’s Office, where he was charged with:
· Felony count of first degree kidnapping
· Felony count of possessing a firearm by a convicted felon
· Two felony counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer inflicting physical injury
· Three misdemeanor counts of resisting a public officer
· One count of crime of domestic violence
· One count of battery of an unborn child
· One count of assault by pointing a gun
· One misdemeanor count of breaking and entering
Kinsey received no bond due to being out on pretrial release. This is an ongoing investigation with more charges pending.
Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said he would unequivocally not tolerate any assaults on his deputies.
“I will ensure that this individual or any other person who commits such an offense against any of my deputies will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Rogers said. “I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the Good Samaritan who provided a helping hand to the deputies in making the arrest this morning.”
