Update: Statement from administration regarding the fire that broke out at E.B. Frink Middle School:
“Just after 9:30 pm on Friday, February 21, 2025, the La Grange Fire Department, with the assistance of the North Lenoir Volunteer Fire Department and the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office, responded to fire alarms sounding at E.B. Frink Middle School. Fire crews found a fire in the underground boiler room behind the school's main building. Flames were coming from one of the two boilers in the room. Firemen quickly extinguished the fire. It was determined that the fire resulted from mechanical failure within the boiler unit. Other than the extensive damage to one of the two boilers, there was no actual damage to the boiler room or to the school. The other boiler should be able to provide the same level of daily heat for the impacted part of the school facility until the damaged boiler can be repaired or replaced. Monday should be a regular day of school at E.B. Frink Middle School. We would like to thank the La Grange Fire Department, the North Lenoir Volunteer Fire Department, and the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office for responding so quickly and for always providing such outstanding support for our school system and our stakeholders.”
LA GRANGE – Fire crews responded to a fire at E.B. Frink Middle School Friday night. Officials have not released details on the extent of any damage or the cause of the fire.
This is a developing story.
The fire comes as Lenoir County Public Schools (LCPS) moves forward with the construction of a new E.B. Frink Middle School, a $57 million project expected to open in August 2026. This incident follows previous fires at the school in December 2024, when a former student was arrested and charged in connection with multiple incidents of arson.
