Kinston Police Arrest Armed Suspect, Recover Stolen and Modified Firearm

On February 20, 2025, at approximately 9:39 p.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad responded to a shots fired call in the 1500 block of Stroud Avenue. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with a group of individuals who immediately fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued, resulting in the apprehension of Erion Strong (19, of Kinston).

During the arrest, officers recovered a firearm equipped with an extended magazine that had been illegally modified with a “switch.” Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen from Clayton, NC.

Strong was transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he was placed under a secured bond. He faces the following charges:

• Possession of a Stolen Firearm

• Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction

• Resisting a Public Officer

• Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance

The Kinston Police Department would like to extend our appreciation to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this case.

“Kinston Police Department remains committed to reducing gun violence in our community. The recovery of this modified firearm highlights the dangers officers face daily, but it also demonstrates the dedication of our officers in keeping Kinston safe. We will continue working diligently with our law enforcement partners to hold offenders accountable.” – Chief Keith Goyette
