Sheriff warns of jury duty phone scam in Greene County

Sheriff warns of jury duty phone scam in Greene County

*****SCAM ALERT*****

Sheriff Sasser would like to advise the Citizens of a current phone scam that has been circulating within the County. Scammers have been posing as Law Enforcement and advising victims that they have missed Jury Duty and have to pay a fine or a warrant will be issued for their arrest.

THIS IS A SCAM!

Things to remember: Scammers often operate from out of the country, making it hard to recover lost funds. NO legitimate law enforcement agency will demand immediate payments via barcodes, gift cards, or similar methods. Do not provide personal or financial information over the phone. Hang up and independently verify the caller’s identity by contacting your local Sheriff’s Office or Detention Center directly. Share this information with your friends and family, especially those who may be more vulnerable to scams. Sheriff Sasser asks that Citizens remain vigilant and alert to these type phone calls and report them so that the Sheriff's Office can keep track of current scams. To report scams please call the Greene County Sheriff's Office at 252-747-3411.
