UNC Health Lenoir launches free exercise program for cancer survivors
UNC Health Lenoir, in partnership with the Comprehensive Cancer Support Program at UNC Chapel Hill and the Duke Endowment, are proud to offer the “Get Real and Heel” exercise program for cancer survivors at the Minges Wellness Center on campus at UNC Health Lenoir.
Cancer treatment often results in physical and psychological challenges, such as fatigue, reduced strength, and anxiety. “Get Real and Heel” is a 12-week, tailored exercise program designed to improve physical and mental health, while also helping to relieve treatment side effects for cancer survivors.
“I am so excited to help bring this program to UNC Health Lenoir. “Get Real and Heel” will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the lives of cancer survivors in our community,” said Julia Daniel, Exercise Physiologist at Minges Wellness Center. Participants will have access to training sessions led by qualified exercise physiologists, personalized fitness plans, and peer support. The program is open to all cancer survivors, regardless of fitness level, and each exercise can be adapted to meet individual needs. Sessions are held for one hour, three times a week, and consist of a mix of cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and balance training. Participation in the program is completely free for the individual, ensuring access for all survivors interested in participating.
Registration for the upcoming session is now open and spaces are limited. For more information or to join the program, please contact Erin Williams, Nurse Navigator at 252-522-7280 or Julia Daniel, Exercise Specialist at 252-522-7944.
