Arrest made in Exotic Tobacco and Vape break-in

On March 9, 2025, Kinston Police Department (KPD) officers responded to a breaking and entering at Exotic Tobacco and Vape, located at 805 Hardee Rd. Upon arrival, officers discovered the front door had been smashed open with a large brick.

The keyholder provided surveillance footage, which showed a suspect throwing a grey brick through the lower portion of the glass front door before entering the business. The suspect then proceeded behind the counter, stealing multiple packs of Newport cigarettes and vape batteries.

KPD shared images of the suspect and, with the help of the community, detectives identified 41-year-old Samuel Hart of Kinston as the individual in the video. Warrants were obtained for Breaking and Entering and Larceny After the Fact.

On March 12, 2025, officers located Hart in the 400 block of N Orion Street and took him into custody without incident. In addition to the outstanding warrants, Hart was also served with an unrelated order for arrest for shoplifting and probation violations. He is currently being held at the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond.

Major Jenkins praised the swift teamwork between officers and the community: "This case highlights the importance of community partnerships in solving crimes. Thanks to the public’s assistance and the diligent work of our officers, we were able to quickly identify and apprehend the suspect."

KPD appreciates the community’s support in keeping Kinston safe. Anyone with further information on this case is encouraged to contact the Kinston Police Department.
