Kinston woman charged for stealing from yard sale

A Kinston woman was charged by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office with two misdemeanor crimes Tuesday for stealing items from a yard sale.

On Tuesday, Jessica Browning, 36, was charged with misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen property in which she was accused of stealing a box that contained jewelry, a teddy bear, bedroom slippers and a black Polo box from a yard sale on the 2500 block of U.S. 258 South. Browning allegedly stole the box and then fled to a neighboring residence.

LCSO deputies went to the house where Browning entered and spoke with a family member, who identified Browning as the suspect. The family member told deputies Browning had stolen the items and then fled the residence in a vehicle, leaving some of the stolen property behind. The witness provided the recovered items to the deputies, who returned the stolen property to the owners.

Browning’s probation officer was contacted and the suspect surrendered to the LCSO. She was given a $1,000 secured bond.
