Lenoir County Man Sentenced for Larceny and Identity Theft; Will Be Extradited to Georgia After Prison Term
A Lenoir County man pled guilty today to larceny and identity theft charges and will spend the next few years in prison before being extradited to Georgia.
Michael Bridwell, 41, received prison sentences of 16 to 29 months after pleading guilty for larceny and obtaining property for false pretenses and 20 to 33 months for identity theft today. The sentences will be served consecutively; he will be extradited to Georgia after his time is served in North Carolina.
The prison time is a result of crimes Bridwell committed in December and January. He was arrested Dec. 28 by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies for an arrest warrant out of Georgia. He gave a false name and date of birth to deputies in an attempt to avoid extradition and prosecution. Bridwell was soon identified and taken into custody for identity theft, as well as for the out-of-state warrant.
On Jan. 8, the LCSO posted on its Facebook pages to request assistance from the community in identifying a vehicle involved with the theft of a wheelchair ramp from Rivermont Baptist Church; the crime occurred the morning of Dec. 28.
Through many tips and leads received by the LCSO’s General Investigations Unit, Bridwell was identified as the culprit. He was charged with felony larceny, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses.
“Today, I am proud to say justice was served,” Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said. “I am so appreciative to the residents of Lenoir County who helped us take this individual off our streets and put this person behind bars. Together, we are building a better and safer Lenoir County.”
