UNC Health Lenoir Earns 4-Star CMS Rating

UNC Health Lenoir has been awarded a 4-star rating by CMS, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. CMS is the federal agency that provides health coverage to more than 160 million people through Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the Health Insurance Marketplace. CMS works in partnership with the entire healthcare community to improve quality, equity, and outcomes across the healthcare system.

CMS assigns hospitals an overall star rating on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars representing the highest level of performance. Hospitals are evaluated using a variety of quality and patient care measures, and a 4-star rating indicates above average performance.

The rating combines data from several categories, including mortality rates, readmission rates, patient safety, patient satisfaction, and the timeliness and effectiveness of care. A hospital with a 4-star rating demonstrates strong clinical outcomes, good patient safety practices, positive patient experiences, and performance that exceeds many peer hospitals.

This recognition also reflects the continued progress being made at UNC Health Lenoir, which has improved from a 3-star hospital rating in recent years. The advancement highlights the organization’s ongoing commitment to strengthening quality, safety, and patient experience for the community it serves.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and commitment of our entire team at UNC Health Lenoir,” said Dr. Crystal Hayden, President and CEO. “Every member of our staff plays an important role in delivering safe, high-quality care to our patients and community each day. I am incredibly grateful for the teamwork, compassion, and professionalism that made this achievement possible.”
