The Kinston Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q’s 40th location in Kinston. “Today is a very special day. This is store number 40,” said Smithfield Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q President Lew Starling. “You get a warm feeling when you come, and your next-door neighbor is Chick-Fil-A and they bring you cookies,” said Starling. “It doesn't get much better than that.”
One of Kinston’s newest eatery additions is Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q set to open Thursday, September 17. With traditional North Carolina style food on its menu, Smithfield’s is located next to Chick-Fil-A and directly in front of Lowe’s Home Improvement. The newest location will feature the same menu as other locations.
Twenty-five new full-time jobs are coming to Kinston courtesy of Smithfield’s Chicken and BBQ, opening in June in the old Applebee’s building near Walmart. In a phone call late last week, Neuse News talked with Smithfield’s President Lew Starling about the economic and community impact.
