Governor Cooper announced schools have the option to choose Plan A for Pre-K through 5th grade effective October 5th. Safety protocols, such as daily temperature screenings, social distancing in hallways and common areas, the wearing of masks, and frequent washing of hands/use of hand sanitizer will be required.
August 17 marked the first day of school for most students in North Carolina. Public school systems across the state have implemented remote learning, with some planning to rely on it for longer than others. The transition from face to face education to remote learning has some asking about the impact of remote learning to school funding which can be based on attendance.
“The N.C. General Assembly, in legislation approved this past weekend and signed into law by Gov. Roy Cooper on Monday, set opening day of the 2020-2021 school year as August 17, a week earlier than usual,” said LCPS Patrick Holmes. “District administrators will use that guidance to produce a revised calendar for the next school year during May and plan to present that calendar to the Lenoir County Board of Education at its June meeting.”
