The Smart Kinston Foundation is excited to announce a special Black History Month celebration at the Smart Gallery at 210 N. Queen Street on February 24, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This unique event will feature the works of four prominent Smart Kinston Artists, including Maximillian Mozingo, Jamil Burton, Maner Nobles, and Davida Rawls, offering a vibrant exploration of African American art and culture.
Greene Early College has embraced the observance of Black History Month throughout February with activities for the students. Established nationally in 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
The Kinston Lenoir County NAACP will be Hosting its Second Local Black History Tour right here in the City of Kinston, NC on February 17, 2024. Everyone is Welcome. Let's Celebrate Black History together! There is so much undocumented Black History right here in Kinston, and if We as a Community don't share this History, it will eventually fade away!

The Front Porch is an artistic depiction of the place where much oral history was transmitted in the South, a project funded through the Z Smith Reynolds Inclusive Public Art Grant. From 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, you can share in the Front Porch experience at the 1901 Building, located at 129 N. Queen Street. Earl Ijames of the North Carolina Museum of History will host the event, and he will be a presenter, as well.
On Feb. 19, Banks Elementary displayed a Black History Month walkthrough museum, researching leaders who made an impact on history.
LCC has a pair of upcoming Black History Month events, starting with Thursday’s presentation on the 1951 Adkin High School walkout.
