The Friends of the CSS Neuse Museum (the Gunboat Association) has partnered with the NC Cooperative Extension in Lenoir County, the Kinston Fire Department, the Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary, and other community organizations to host an environmental education day at the Governor Richard Caswell Memorial on April 1.
The CSS Neuse Gunboat Association, the official nonprofit support group for the CSS Neuse Museum in Kinston, is hosting the “Autumn’s in the Air” Fall Festival from 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday, on the grounds of the Governor Richard Caswell Memorial, located at 2612 W. Vernon Ave in Kinston.
The CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center is growing again! On March 11 the Center will unveil its final phase of permanent exhibits. Entitled, “The Civil War in Eastern North Carolina,” these exhibits will showcase a variety of aspects of the Civil War including causes, military engagements and personalities, and the involvement of women and African Americans during the conflict.
When Matt Young approached me about serving on the CSS Neuse Gunboat Association board, I felt a wave of trepidation wash over me. About a dozen years ago, I promised Sandra, my wife, that I would start getting off some of these boards. Every time she turned around, I was heading to a board meeting. She was not thrilled.
