In a prestigious event held in Greensboro on January 27, Arendell Parrot Academy senior Haynes Lewis was named Distinguished Young Woman of North Carolina.
“I was very surprised,” said Lewis. “I was on stage with so many capable and amazing young women. Any one of them would have been capable of representing our state. I feel very honored to be able to represent North Carolina but most especially to be able to represent that group of amazing young women.”
On Saturday, over $12,000 in scholarships and other gifts were given to the Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County Class of 2024. The Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County program is part of a nationwide effort to recognize, reward, and encourage excellence and education among all young people. Seven senior girls competed for the scholarships. Participants were Gabby Smith, Tiyah Chapman, Leanna Kivett, Shamiah Hall, Grayson Lynch, Kalyn Brock, and Caitlin Waters.
The Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County program proudly presents Adyson Whaley, Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County for 2023, in its annual program which will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023 in the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Kinston High School. Whaley is currently a freshman at North Carolina State University and is the daughter of Bevan and Ginger Whaley.

Sanderson is currently a freshman at East Carolina University and is the daughter of Millicent and Petey Sanderson.

The Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County program proudly presents Anna Rouse, Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County for 2021, in its annual program which will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021 in the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Kinston High School. Rouse is currently a freshman at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the daughter of Eric and Alice Rouse.
The decision was announced on a post on their Facebook that said, “The Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County Program proudly presents Anna Rouse, the Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County for 2021.”
Rouse received a $2,500 scholarship and medallion, a $500 dollar clothing allowance for the state program and a 16 x 20 portrait from Potter Photography. The Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County is part of a nationwide effort to recognize, reward, and encourage excellence and education among all young people. Seven senior girls representing South Lenoir, North Lenoir, and Kinston High school competed for the scholarships offered.
North Lenoir student Anna Hull was named the 2020 Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County on Saturday evening at the Kinston High School Performing Arts Center.
