Don’t miss your chance to show off your casserole cooking skills at the Lenoir County Agricultural Fair. The fair begins on October 2 and runs through October 7th and is filled with all kinds of fun for the whole family!! The Casserole Cook-Off has become an annual event providing all of you great cooks out there a chance to share your favorite casserole recipes.
The CSS Neuse Gunboat Association, the official nonprofit support group for the CSS Neuse Museum in Kinston, is hosting the “Autumn’s in the Air” Fall Festival from 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday, on the grounds of the Governor Richard Caswell Memorial, located at 2612 W. Vernon Ave in Kinston.
I love Fall decorating, the colors, the use of fresh materials, all of it, but it’s really sad that one of the most nutritious fall vegetables is often only used for decoration and often overlooked for a healthy addition to your menu!! Besides being great for decorating, and the only vegetable that is carved and lit up, this low-calorie squash is rich in potassium and loaded with beta-carotene (a powerful antioxidant), and its natural sweetness brings flavor to baked goods without any added guilt.
Even though it still feels more like summer, fall is definitely on the way, and fall means fresh NC apples! We grow a wide variety of delicious apples here in NC and even though we don’t grow too many of these in Eastern NC, you can generally find them at most farmers markets!!
