Lillian Daughety has piled up the accolades in her quest for top academic scholarships, but the one that matters most to the North Lenoir High School senior is the one she won. She is among a group of just 100 North Carolina students chosen for the Goodnight Scholarship to North Carolina State University, an award as valuable as it is prestigious.
Like most members of the Class of 2025, Melissa Espino set her sights on college and, at the same time, worried about how to pay for those four years. Consider the goal met and the problem solved for the North Lenoir High School senior.
In December, the people administering the Goodnight Scholarship, a full-ride merit scholarship designed to bring top STEM-directed students to NC State University, sent out invitations to apply to 900 high school seniors. Zaire Garner of South Lenoir High School got one of those.
