Ms. Coming Up In Age Pageant shines a spotlight on grace, wisdom, and community

The stage was set for an evening of elegance, resilience, and celebration as the first-ever Ms. Coming Up In Age Pageant took place on Saturday, March 8, at the Kinston High School Performing Arts Center. Hosted by Sharonda Shanice Events, the pageant was held in support of Greene Lamp Community Action’s Foster Grandparent Program, an initiative dedicated to enriching the lives of both senior volunteers and the children they mentor.

A top merit scholarship to NC A&T awarded Kinston’s Javiar Grady

Javiar will enter the College of Education with aspirations of becoming an elementary school teacher. “I’ve always wanted to impact the lives of others,” he said. “It’s best to make that impact at a young age. I’m a firm believer in the Scripture, ‘Train up a child the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.’ If you teach them while they’re young, your hope is that they grow up and will never forget that teaching.”
