The Jones County Board of Education voted to return to masks optional for students and staff beginning on Monday, February 21st.
In a recent email to parents, Arendell Parrott Academy announced plans to make adjustments to COVID-19 policies effective Monday, February 14, 2022. Those plans include mask-optional for students, staff, visitors, and sporting events, and continuing to require masks on buses and vans in compliance with federal law.
North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore sent a letter to Governor Roy Cooper asking to end the policies that have disrupted classrooms and hindered student achievement and repeal the guidelines that force healthy kids to stay home and effectively mandate masks in schools, as most governors across the country finally do the same.
To ensure student safety and school attendance, all JCPS students will be required to wear masks at this time. Our mask requirement will be effective for all students K-12. Masks will be available for all students at each of our school sites.

The Greene County Schools posted an update on Facebook about mask mandates. Due to the significant surge of COVID cases over the past several weeks, the Greene County Board of Education has temporarily reinstated the mandatory masking requirement for all students, staff and visitors while inside any Greene County Schools’ facility.
The Lenoir County Board of Education met for their monthly meeting to discuss the mask mandate as well as other line items on their agenda. Members of the public included parents, grandparents, and frontline workers who shared their opinions on what types of COVID-19 precautions or lack there, they would like the board to address.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D. gave an update on the state’s current data, trends and vaccination progress. As the state’s metrics and key indicators remain stable, Governor Cooper also signed an Executive Order outlining safety measures for the month of May.
