A fire took the life of a Banks Elementary School student on Sunday, November 21, 2021. The mobile home fire located at 1879 Water Chestnut Drive in Kinston was reported by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after Christmas in 1964, a kitchen fire spread in to blaze that ravaged Winston Wheeler's home. At the time, the City of Kinston provided fire protection for county residents, but only one fire truck – Fire Engine No. 3 – was dedicated for use in fighting fires in the county.
A 911 call about a fire at the Kinston Village apartment complex came in around 9:40 a.m.
