The ‘Woodmen Community Center’ is no more — meet the Kinston Community Center.
The family of the child injured in a Lions Water Adventure Park settled with the City of Kinston for $10 million. A press conference Tuesday morning laid out the details of the settlement.
The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson was created by the World Waterpark Association in 2010 as a platform to communicate the fundamental importance of teaching children to swim. On Thursday, June 21 147 children lined up at Lion’s Water Adventure to participate in this swim lesson.
Lenoir County Commissioners accepted the termination of the Woodmen Community Center agreement, Tuesday, in a four to two vote. County Commissioner J Mac Daughety said the commissioner's unanimously agreed to get out of the original Woodmen agreement. “Our disagreement was on how to get out of the agreement,” Daughety said.
Kinston City Council approved the donation of the Woodmen of the World property with a vote of four to one in favor. This vote comes in after a public forum held last week.
Voices were heard Tuesday night, when Lenoir County citizens filled the banquet hall of the Woodmen Community Center to discuss how officials will handle the center in the future.
