KPD's A-Squad conducted a traffic stop on Hines Avenue & Vernon Avenue with Brittany Futrell (34 of Hugo NC) after she called 911. During the traffic stop officers placed a tire deflating device under the tires due to Futrell's actions that led officers to believe she was going to flee.
KPD's D-Squad responded to a Vehicle B&E in the Glenwood Avenue area. During the investigation officers were able to obtain video evidence and identified the offender as Mohnee Bostic (26 of Snow Hill, NC).
A New Bern man has been arrested in Lenoir County on a narcotics charge.
Case Update During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Tyghjheri Jones, 20, of Goldsboro. On April 5, 2024, members of the Kinston Police Department, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, and State Bureau of Investigation devised a plan to apprehend Jones.
A former teacher assistant at Southwood Elementary School has been charged with embezzlement. Jennifer West, 43, of Kinston, who served as the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Treasurer for the school, has been charged with four counts of embezzlement stemming from an investigation into the PTA at the school. The investigation revealed nearly $16,000 of PTA funds were misapplied in the span of two months.

On March 4, 2024, at approximately 3:00 pm, members of the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of a shooting that had taken place near the 900 block of E. King St. Kinston, N.C. Officers made contact with seven young adults and juveniles, who advised that they were walking in the area, and they were approached by a group of males that initiated an altercation.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Sherrod Suggs, 58, of 710 Joyner Drive, Kinston, NC. Suggs was charged with one count of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
