LCPS students shine at Community Council for the Arts T.A.P.S. performances
Typically, when you stop into the Community Council for the Arts, you’re greeted with a quiet space filled with beautiful artwork. This week, the gallery was filled with a different type of art as well. 5th grade students from Banks Elementary and a few students from E.B. Frink Middle School got to perform at the Arts council as part of the Traditional Arts Programs for Students grant.

Library and Shelter Partner to Open Early Literacy Center
Poverty negatively influences the academic achievement of young children. Research shows that youth from disadvantaged backgrounds are more likely to repeat grades and drop out of high school. Because children experiencing homelessness face a greater risk of performing poorly in school and not graduating, it is important to provide them with increased early literacy opportunities.
Mike Parker: Association seeking support for Bible history class
Until Cathy Holder met with me recently, I did not know Kinston High School – and before that Grainger High School – has had a course in Bible history since 1942. This year marks the 82nd year the class has existed in Kinston. Since 2017, all three high schools have offered the course. The Bible History class in our area is the longest-running public high school Bible class in the entire state.

Having spent most of his life in Kinston after his family immigrated from Mexico, he has taken on a challenge not only for himself but for his entire community.
Snow Hill "Terrific Kid" awards
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. Evans & Associates of Kinston and Lititz Mutual Insurance Company of Pennsylvania have partnered to together to present a matching donation to the Lenoir Community College Foundation in support of student scholarships. This is the third consecutive year these companies have partnered to give to the LCC Foundation.
LCC Receives Funds from Lenoir County ABC Board
The Lenoir County ABC Board recently presented a check of $15,000 to Lenoir Community College to assist in alcohol and drug awareness programs at the College.

Timothy Sanderson celebrated as LCPS Beginning Teacher of the Year
On a usual day, Mr. Timothy Sanderson can usually be found at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School, teaching fifth-grade students the basics of energy, ecosystems and everything else that makes up a 5th-grade science class. That’s where the Lenoir County Public Schools leadership team found him Wednesday morning, helping students quiz each other on new vocabulary they’ve learned.
